My Dear Brother and Sister and friends
it is with the greatest of pleasure that I take my pen in hand to wright a fiew lines to you to let you no that I am well at presant and I hope when these fiew lines come to hand they will find you all Enjoying the Same Blessing Well Will I guess pap is out there now and that he has told you that I have gon to War it is true Enough I Could not Stay a way any longer I thougt it my Duty to fight for my Country I Left home on the 2 of September I went to Camp Noble New Albany wher I Joind Capten / J. B. Glovers Company for three Years or Enduring the war Jim is in this Company to and Lots of the boys I went to School with not having time to mention their Names Well Will I guess you would like to no where I am and how I am geting a long &c I we was at Camp Noble a bout 3 weeks Drilling we got our Uniform and guns there Yesterday a week a go we left Camp Noble bound for Elizeabeth town Ky I did not get to go home any time We left Camp Noble before I was looking for it there was one of General anderson aids Come and told our Colonel B. F. Scribner that he wanted him to march his men to Ky a mediately that was Saturday about 10 OClock and we got our Napsacks and Such things / as we needed and then about three OClock in the Afternoon the Whole Ridgement was Drawn up in a line then we all started to the Ohio River and was marched on bord the Steem boat and rode a cross the river Marched up to louisville th when we got there it was after Dark we got our Supers there at the Depot about 10 OClock about 12 OClock we all got on the Cars and Started for Elizabeth town on the Louisville and nashvill Railroad we went about 20 miles and stoped for the till morning then we went 10 miles further to where a bridge was burnt from over a smal river I forget the name of the river there we got off the Cars and got our / breakfast about 9 OClock as Soon as we got our breakfast we started the rest of the way on foot which was 15 miles we al had to wade that river where the bridge was burnt and all the Creekes after we crost that river we Expected to be fired up on but was not wh before we got to Elivabeth town we over took Rusaws brigade of about 200 men we all marched into town Expecting to have a batle but when we got there the Sitizens Said that there was 100 men there Secesh left there the day before we got there we camped there that night the next morning we started the next where there was sum more Secesh but when we got about 3 miles from town we herd that they had burnt the rail road bridge and fled we then marched into a
