June the 1st 1862
Camp Caylor Huntsville Alabama
Dear brother with pleasure I take my pen in hand to write you a few lines to let you know that I am again in our Company and am doing well. I am glad to inform you that I recd your letter to day in answer to the one I wrote you when I was in the Hospital. I was more than glad to hear that you were all doing so well and that Jesse was able to work I hope you may prosper for the good you have done for I know you must have been a great deal of help to them. I had a very severe Tiphoid Fever was my sickness and I lay very low for about five weeks during this time I knew nothing of my my misery for two weeks for I was / out of my head with fever and after that I commencd bleeding at the nose and then nearly every body that saw me said I would surely go up. but by the attendance of five or six the best Docters in the Division that stayed in the house all the time they brought my up in two weeks so I cold walk all over the floor and in now I am as hearty as ever and have a plenty that is good to eat such as ham fresh beef crackers beens Coffee sugar vinegar and meal to make mush or bread as we choose for we can get milk most all the time. Also fruit is ripe here and have been for two three weeks Straw berries are in abundenc. This part of the Country is not as rich as some but there is very good land in both this state and Tennesee I have saw a great many thing since / I came in the army and if it should be my good fortune to get home I will have some very big stories to tell you. Although things looks encourageing for Gen. Mitchell says we will be on our march home in 30 days for Corinth is taken and we also understand the Richm is tan and if this be true the war will soon be endded but if I get home in three month I will be satisfied I feel as though I was at home now and am just as well satisfied when I can hear that our folks are doing well. it is not worth my while to write any thing more about the war for you know from what you read more than I do. So nothing more at present only give my love to all inquiring friends
Direct your letter as usual and be sure and write soon N. Keen.
