Anderson. March April 4th,
Dear brother I embrace this opportunity of writing you a few lines to inform you that I am well as common. hoping this may find you the same. I received yours of the 19th of March this morning and was glad to hear from you all but very sorry to hear that Joshua was getting worse. the letter was advertised in the Journal & James Lucas went down and brought it up for me. Indianapolis was wild yesteday with enthusiasm over the news of the fall of Richmond & Petersburg It was reported that Old Abe was the first man in Richmond backed up by a Brigade of the sable sons of Aff Africa. Babylon has fallen. Fare Well Confederacy
Hurah for Grant Sherman Sheridan & Thomas. cheers for Abe. Thank you for those obutuary notices / I see in a list of interments of Indian Soldiers in the National Cemetry at Chattanooga March the 16th & 17th the name of Jordan Keen 29th reg. section F. grave 319 died of Typhoid Fever. this will no doute be sorrowful news to aunt Mary & family. I didnt see his wife when I was through Tipton it was so muddy & raining too that I couldn’t get around. this places those poor orphan Children in rather bad circumstances.
I am doing very well now. when I came to Anderson my $10 not had about exhausted. I have worked three weeks now, and not more than half worked and, and made $27. my rheumatism is mainly now in my hip and left leg. it swells up after standing all day. this accounts for my not working all day.
Give my respects to all enquiring friends. No more at present
