Washington D. C. June 26th/61
I will now write you a few lines today I am in Washington. We started from Portsmouth N H one week ago today. Via Boston New York City, Harisburgh Va. Baltimore, to Washington D. C. When we arrived on Sunday Eve and took our Encampment two milds out of the City. the Camp is Northwest from the Capitol; We have not had much excitement as yet only on Monday night we took one Secession Prisioner he being a spy from No. Carolina. he fired into one of our guard and the Col thought perhaps he might have more with him; the fellow was hired to come into our Camp and other Camp about us and take a plan of them all for the Southern men, but we froze to him a man in Co B. shot him about 20 rods from our Camp. he is in the Camp now held as a Prisioner and will with out doubt be shot. We have about 160,000 soldirs arround within Eleven milds of us; Yestaday five Regt came in to day we expect 3 Regt more; over
