John T. Graham to Roxana Crafts, 5 August 1861
Rooms of the Union Relief Association
Baltimore Augt 5 1861

My dear Madam.
Your husband arrived here on Friday last, in a very exhausted condition and demanding the attention of a Physician, so I insisted on his remaining for a few days at my house, under the care of my Wife & Mother, which after much persuasion he consented to do. Since then he has been very sick but is much improved

He is suffering from a “general” prostration of his whole system, and only needs proper care and attention to return his health eventually.

The Dr thinks it would be unwise for him to leave for five or six days, so dont be alarmed if you do not see him until some day next week, for I will not consent for him to leave until able / to travel without risking his life.

Be assured he will receive every care and attention that he needs and as soon as we think it prudent will forward him to you, by easy stages of travelling, in which we think he had better consume several days in stoppages in Phila & N.Y. and thereby save his strength.

He is sitting up a little to day and is improving fast. We will let him leave on Friday taking rest in Phila & N.Y. and arriving in Boston on Sunday where he wishes you to meet him at the Quincy House.
He may be detained on the way until Monday.

Please write his Father and Mother at once.

We will care for him tenderly.

            Yours Respy

            Dear Farther
I have just received this letter, which I will send to you.

I have been expecting Homer home for a week, and you can see why he has not come. Brother Jewett or my self will go to Boston on Saturday to meet him. I want him brought to me as soon as he is able to ride. You shall here from him as soon as I do.
