Dear Father
I will write you a few lines, although I am verry weak to write. I cannot carry a steady hand and I think it is very hard work for a sick person to undertake to write. I am not in very good health, am under Dr Geoff Roberts care, who says it will take me three months to regain my strength again. The morning the Battle was at Bull Run my weight was 1.48# now it is 1.20# I think that is a loosing most to fast. I have not any strength and am trouble with night sweats very bad which leave me very weak the next morning But am in hopes of getting cured of that before long; You wished to know how I could get my discharge from the army; if I am unable to do duty I can obtain my discharge and it will be a long time before I shall be worth much; I have applied for my discharge and think there is no doubt but what I will get it.
After I get strength and my discharge and am able to ride so far I will make you a visit. Remember us to the family and excuse poor writing. Write often,
Yours with Respect
Your Son,
Homer
