Camp Beaufort
March 11th 1862
My Dear Father
As having a few leasure moments I will emprove them by writing you. I arrived in Camp the next Saturday after I left home; our encampment is about fifty miles below Washington down the Potomac river on the Maryland side in the town of Doncaster, M.D. After I arrived in Camp I reported myself to Col Marston who said I should draw my pay all the time I had been home. He said he wished me to take my old position in the Co and if I could not stand it that he would assist me in / obtaining my discharge and I did not want to say much about it until after I drew my pay and then if possible I will get it we will get paid some time this month. I will send to you there my pay which will amount to one hundred & fifty dollars up to the first of March I am in verry good health; I think of nothing else
My regards to all the family
