Dear Father
It is thursday morning and a cloudy damp day it is to I am in the Hospital somewhat unwell.
The trouble with me is in the back am unfit for duty and if I do not get any better soon I am agoing to apply for a discharge; I have been examined by two Surgeons who pronounce me unfit for duty. But I am to be examined by the General Surgeon and then probably I will be discharged; And as it is imposible for anyone to get one now until after the fight at Yorktown which will probably come off in a few days they are making preperations for a big time and are verry busey about now /
I have not any news to write as it is verry quiet arround us and nothing of any importance has happened of late. Remember me to all. Excuse poor writing as I have no desk to write on only a book which is verry inconvineant.
write often; I do not see Judd;
Will write again in a few days.
Yours with Respect
Your Son Homer
My Regt are within two miles of Yorktown, so you will see I am left back at the Brigade Hospital four miles from the Regt
Yours
Homer
