March the 10th 1864
 
Dear Sarah I seat myself this eavning to rite you a few lines to you in answer to your very cinde letter of the 6th that come to hand to day I was very glad to hear that you and all the rest of the friends was well I am still enjoying the best of helth, and I hope when thoes few lines come to hand they will finde my little Family and all the rest of the friends well.
 
It is so warm to day that I am almost to lazy to rite /
 
You said you had got the ring I sent you I will put a nother one in this letter for you that is worth 2 or 3 of the one you have got I could sell this for 1 Dollar but I made it for you and I will send it to you you ma give the one you have got to you sister Emily and if you want any more I will make them tell me witch finger this ring fits
 
you did not send me the size of Malisa finger but I will guess at the size of it and send the ring next weak
 
I am going to make one for Jim Hubbards little girl for that Dime she give me when we was their /
 
you wanted to know if I had to pay anything on the shirts and socks I did not Post Masters are not a loud to charge but 8 cents for anything weighing less than 2 lb so if you send any thing els just put 8 ct on it and I will ensure it to come without further cost—if it is not to mutch trubble you ma send me a nother shirt for my old ones are entirly worn out and I like to have 3 for we have inspection evry Sunday morning and you must have on a clean shirt and have a clean one in your napsack so you se to do that we are bound to change a Saturday and wash the one you pull of unless you have got 3 /
 
you wanted to know if theas shirts was big anuf they are just rite I am well pleased with them thoes pockets are to my notion
 
I dont know wether you will ever get paid for your cindness to me but I hope so
 
their is 4 months pay due us now and I think we will get paid before long but I will tell you when ever we do so you can look out for the money
 
I will try and get my miniture taken before long and send it to you
 
you can do as you like about sending our little girls purty if you send it I will send this one back, if not I will ceap this one
but I will have to close for this time rite as often as you can so good by for this time
