Dear Sarah I seat myself this eavning to rite you a few lines in answer to your very cind letter of the 3th of this month
 
            I hope when thoes few lines come to hand they will finde you and our little Girl and all the rest of the folks well as I am happy to say that I am still enjoying good helth
 
You said you felt so lonesom try and drive away your gloom and be of good chear for there is a good time coming just wait a little longer                                      turn over /
 
I will now tell you that the battery is gone up the spout for a while their is 50 men detailed into the 5th Ind Battery and 50ty of of us turned over to the quarter master to take care of convalesant horses We are going 4 milds out of town to morow to fix a place to graze them it ma be that we will have to stay their all summer and I hope we will there is some talk that we are to go on a gunboat the first of next month but I dont know how it will be and that aint only half I dont care, thats all—time is pasing swiftly by we will soon have but six months to stay. When this / month is out I will have 6 months pay due me I dont know when they intend to pay us I will have to get you to send me some more postage stamps for I cant get any Now dont let your Dreams bother you for their is no signs in them
 
and you neadent have any fears about my owning you when I get back
 
but I will have to close for this time ma God bless you is my prayer dont forget to rite and direct your letters in this way

Dear Sister I will try and rite a few lines to you in answer to your very cind letter I hope thoes few lines will finde you well as I am happy to say that I could not ask to be any helther than I am at preasant I se by a letter that Jim got to day from you that you seam to be in trubble about some thing but I hope it is nothing searious
 
I cant think of any thing worth riting about to day but if I was at home I have an idear I could find something to talk about
 
I will close for this time still hoping to remain your loving brother if we are not purmited to meat on earth again I hope to meat you in heaven God bless you is my prayer
