Near Chattanooga Tenn
 
Dear Sarah I seat myself this after noon to rite you a few lines hoping they will finde you and Malisa and all the rest of the friends well as I am happy to say that I am still enjoying the very best of health
 
I have ben wating with a great deal of patience for some time to get a letter from you but it has not com yet so I thought I would rite you a few lines. some of the boys has gon to town to day and I think I will get a letter
the last letter I got from you, I got on the 12 of this month                           turn over /
 
I will now tel you whare I am and what I am doing the 10th Ind Battery is about plaid out for the preasant there is 50 of the boys detailed into the 5 Ind Battery. it is at Cleavland Tenn and there is 18 of us turned over for the preasant to the Cheaf quarter master of the reserved Artirly to take care of convalesant horses We ar 4 milds above Chattanoog close to the river grazing and feeding 170 head of horses We are seing the best time we have sean while in the Survis I will tell you the names of the boys that you know that is hear James Despain he has charge of us he is Corperal. all the boys are fat and sasy. We are only on duty evry 5th day and the rest of the time we spend in fishing hunting sleeping or in any other way we chose
 
the horses ar pened up evry nite so we dont have to watch them but we have to watch them in the day time for their is no fensing in this Country now
 
            the weather is very nice hear now. I will close for this time Write as often as you can direct your letters to William Forder 10th Ind Battery Chattanooga Tenn Cap Naylor

Dear Sister I hope thoes few lines will finde you well and doing well I have told Sarah about all that will interest you I guess, but I thought I would rite a few lines to you to let you know that I hadent forgot you
 
I saw by the last letter you rote Jim that you was in trubble I hope that is all stratend by this time for it always trubels me to hear of any of my friends getting in to trubble
 
            I hope you will act the part of a true Cristian and dont for get to pray and in everything give thanks
 
I will have to close for this time rite as often as you can and tel me all the news you can
