Dear Friend.
Your interesting letter dated October 3rd was received in due time and ought to have been answered long ago but things beyond my control have prevented me from writing to any one except My Own kindred. On the 3rd of this month I received another letter from you. I had just returned from a furlough I was the happy recipient of a fifteen days furlough on the 16th of December I went to visit My Wife I enjoyed a good visit /
It will not seem long now until my time is out. I have not quite seven months to serve. The Westfall that died from our regiment was Wm Westfall of Co “C” the same company I belong to. Johnny is here with us again. he is well, and Elias also…
We have a new Colonel he came a few days ago from a regiment of regulars from the 1st U.S.H. Art’y the same regiment that Col Morris was from. His name is R.C. Duryea. He did not like the looks of our camp so he ordered us to tear our huts down & put them up in better shape farther up the hill.
