Homer M. Crafts to Chester Crafts, 6 July 186X
Camp Sunllivan July 6th

It is now Saturday Morning and a little cloudy I have a little time to spare and I will improve by writing you in relation to the fireing I heard last Eve.

There is a Regt Stationed about 125 rods back of us, and at 11 oclock last night, their Picket Guard discovered Some one advancing. the Guard commanded them to hault they did So, and fired into the Guard; did not come to time however and the Guard Fired next killed 2 took 3 rebel Priseoners, and this you may think straing for not being more rebels. But all the trouble we have arround whashington is a few spys that that are hired by the sesionist to come into the encampments and take a plan of the of the different encampments. So if the rebel advances on them they will know how to take it.

To morrow this Regt marches out on a four days trip and then returns to Camp Sullivan again; And after we return I will write you our Success &c     Your Affectionat Son
                                                                                    Orderly Sergeant Homer M. Crafts.
