Congress is in cession on the 4th of July and the Secessionist Say they never can hold it in the City of Washington but they will and if the south show fight I think we can hold them a good show We are within 8 milds of the Enemy. Monday 4 Regt was sent 6 milds into Virginia, and some rebels back down from them. you do no know much about the war your the reports you get are not true. in the papers Sunday I saw the 3 bridges that the Secessionist burned and you will remember general Buttler rebuilt them I rode over them. Along that rode now is some 4000 Troops stationed as signals for 60 milds distance.
 
I visited the Capitol this morning It is the most splendid thing I ever saw. I also saw Mr Lincoln My respects to all I am in hast as you will see by my writing and canot stop to write any more
