B. F. Daniels to Father, 8 June 1863
Camp of Instruction
June 8th/63

            Dear Father
I have a position for Jim Negro or a kind of a Blacksmith to stay in the City of Columbia to work in Stocking Factory to make & Straiten Kneedles I think it will be the Best Plan to send Jim or Bring him your self but send or rather write me so I can go for him I can get $1.00 per Day that will keep me out of the Army and Jim will be near home the man says he will let us know if he gets sick. the Factory men will give me a clearance to keep me / out of the Army during the war. it will be much cheeper than to buy a substitute write me immediately so I can get or take the place the Man says he cannot wait on me but 4 or 5 days I had much rather give the boy rather than put my life at stakes if I stay in service I want him anyhow

Dear Father please write me the next day after you receive this letter

                                                                                    Your Devoted Son
