                                                            Dear Sir
With pleasure I seat myself to write you a few lines, to let you know that I am well, and enjoying very good health at presant. I have been in prison nearly eight months, and I have not heard a word from home yet. I have written home six or seven times, but have never heard a word from there since I have been in prison. I have not heard any thing from my company since I have been in this department, they are at Elmira N.Y. I suppose I have written there to find out. John Buchanan is at Fort Delaware, and was well the last time I heard from him. If any of the company have been exchanged please let me know who they are. I am treated with all respects by the guard, we are guarded by the 157th N. Y. Regt. who seem disposed to treat us with all respects that is due to a prisoner of war. But with all the good treatment I get still I am getting very ancious to be exchange. I hope the time is not far distant, untill I will be permitted to return south to my old home once more.

I will close please write soon. Direct to Fort Pulaski Ga her flag of truce Via of Charleston [page torn away]
