John T. Gannaway to James V. B. McDonald, undated
Camp Near Orange C.H
James V. McDanold Esqr.
Dear Sir
according to promise, I seat myself to write you a few lines to let you know that I landed back with the regt. safe. There is some prospects of another fight near this place, we have orders to hold ourselves in readiness to march at a minute warning. The Yankees are reported to be on the other side of the Rhappadan river, and it is thought they will come across, and if they do I think we will be fast enough for them and so I think they had better stay where they are for the presant. I had a very good time at the Camp meetting. Oh! how I did hate / to start back to the army but I am back now and I do not care about coming home for awhile yet. As there is a great deal of excitement up in camp about yankees I will close Please write soon, and give all of the news.
