My dear Nellie
Here we are again: evidently bound for the Tennesee River to reinforce Genl Grants Army at Corinth.
I received your welcome letter of 11th inst. and deeply regret the sad intelligence you mention My dear Nellie I am glad that you are at home to comfort your Mother in this affliction I know that you will be so good and kind to her. I have hea frequently heard Ma speak very affectionately of her Father and am sure that the blow must have very much prostrated her tender nature. I hope that Emily will soon return. Nellie I wrote you that I had sent pkge. money by Dr Scroggs. he did not go home and I now send it by Joshua Wilson of my Company who is returning home on furlough I am quite well but very tired of steamboating it seems so much like doing nothing that / I am homesick but the monotony will probably be relieved by active scenes at our destination I am very thankful for your kind favor of paper. Also to Ed. I dont think we will remain here but a little while and as I have some business to attend to will close and write to you from our next landing and as often as possible Please give my kindest love to your Mother and family.
Devotedly your husband
J B Cahill
