Excuse me Dear Nellie for not writing writing to you the last few days, I have been quite unwell and very busy when I was able to be out of bed if I had time now I would be sick, but this is no time or place to be sick so I will get well. A march of a few miles yesterday helped me wonderfully. We advance again tomorrow and I think I will be myself again.
Our Divission is located in advance on the extreme left of our Army, about six miles south of the late battle field. I have not had time nor disposition to to visit the field or friends here I understand that Capt Sympson, Alex Sholl are with Genl Buells divission on our right. There has been no fighting since we arived except between pickets very little is known / in camp concerning the enemies movements The general impression appears to be that they will again attack us or else evacuate Corrinth. Dear Nellie excuse my short letter I am busy making preparations to march tomorrow early—probably during the night No mail has reached us since leaving Cairo. I am getting very anxious for a letter from you. I will be on picket duty day after tomorrow and have better opportunities of seeing something to write about My Company are all well & in good spirits almost as large as some Regts after the fight. I am now “Color Company” of our Regiment whenever I have a mind to claim the position. The country here is beautiful and I think quite healthy. We are about five miles from Ala. and Miss. line sixteen from Corrinth.
I will write soon again. My love to family and Nell please write soon—
