My Dear Nila I now take my pen in hand to write you a few words to let you know that I am still alive and well and I hope that you are engoying the same great blessing we are all smart the whitman boys are getting along Newton has gon on dutey I went out to Choping wood yesterday and E M has gon to day it has ben raining some hear and the mud is some now I tell you it is just like greas we have got our tent stockaded and now we have room enough thear is a good maney sick in this Reg but not maney in this Companey we have / had the least sick in this Co of aney on the ground my health never was better and I thank god that he has spaird my life and that of my little family as far as I know I dont think of much more to write you asked me what Denomination our Chaplain was he is unitarian and you asked me how I liked him well Nila I dont hardley know how to answer that I think that he is a soldier but I dont think that he tries to win soles to Christ as much as he might and he seams to feel himself above the private so it seams to me perhaps I am mistaken I hope I be /
 
I must close now I am glad that you have got Clannie some boots and I am glad to hear that my little girl is a good girl tell them both that father is glad that they are good Children and that father preys for them every night and I hope that they will prey for their father that he may be spaird to cum home to se his dear Children and wife and I hope and trust that I shall give my love to all after you and the Children kiss them twise for me and may god bless you all good Day
