Well My Dear Nila I now take my pen in hand to let you know that I am still alive and engoying good health and can eat all that I can get but that is a neough for aney one of my Cloth all though the whittmans are Complaining all the time that they want more and Newton is sick all the time but I think that he will gett alonge if nuthing new sets in we have ben to worck on the new fort last weack and we are to worck on them till they are done and I think that we shall gow into them to garison thear is three now that are all joined togather one thear is 7 or 8 guns in and one thear is going to be 13 in and the other 10 and 3 morters /
 
I received your letter dated the 27 of Dec and was glad to hear that you wer all well and I was glad that you was able to go over to fathers and se them and the rest of the old neighbors you wrote that that familey had left our house now do you know why he left and whear are they gon to we have just cum in from inspection and I passed all right the lieutenant said that I had got a nice gun and I knew that all the time we are expecting our pay this weak but I dont know as we shall get it if we do I will pay you for that box that you sent me or rather the half bbl Oh thank god that we are spaird I must stop and write to fathers folks               Albert N Hubbard
