Well Nila I now take my pen in hand to write you and let you know that I am in good health and trying to do my dutey to my Contrey and to my lord and master and I hope that you are well and as contented as can be expected but Nila chear up and not give up for you know that he is able to save all if they will onley come to him with a broken and a contrite heart and I am striveing to lay up a treasure in heaven that man cant take from me but will stand by me in the last day and how soon that day will come / none of us know but if we are readey then it will not matter I am still in the Cuckhouse and dont know how longe I shall stay we have had all of our tents changed or rather the inhabitants so that we have a seargant in each tint Erastus and I am in the same tent that we have ben all the time our seargant name is J D French he is formaley from Perus we like him very much probaley you will receive a present from me before you get this at least I hope you will I shall wait with impacients till I her that you have got that letter I got a letter from Henry last night but it / was dated the 1 of Jan and I spose that you have heard from him since then I sent 20 Dollars to you I onley got $27-60cents that pays up till the first of November so you se thear is 3 months my due and next time I shall try and send more home so you can have a neough to eat and Drink and I dont want you to go quite naked nor let the Children it had rained hear for more than a weak and yesterday it snowed and some to day the ground is not froze one nite day before yesterday I saw a man plowing whear we have drilled maney times /
 
I spose you think up thear that you know what mud is but you dont know aney thing a bout it the mud hear now is from 4 to 8 inches deap and in the roads deaper and you cant hardley wash it of your boots it is worse than aney Clay bed not our husk and parmliy bed I dont mean pleas dont be ofended because I spoke of that bed I should like to try that to night now dont you think that I am home sick because I wrote this for I am not but still should like to just step in and se you and stay till a bout 12 oclock but I must close
