Well Nila I now take my pen in hand to write you a few lines to let you know that I have got out of the Cuck house and Erastus and Pat shields I am glad to get out of it now I tell you My health is good and I am as fat as ever and I hope that you are the same I hope that you have got the money that I sent you I had a letter from William and I have sent it home to fathers folks and you can have it by sending over thare he sent me a potgraph and I may send it home to you if you want it I have got / me a pair of boots down to the cittey I paid $6 1/2 for them they are good ones you asked me if my Clothes wer all worn out they ar not I have got me a new pair of pants and a new blouse and a new Cap that is all that I have got yett I have had a letter from Mrs Dawes last weak and was pleased to hear that they are all well you must go and se them when you can and prey for all I will stop now and sea if I do not get a letter from home
Thursday evening Feb the 6 1863
I will now close this letter for I received two letters from you to day and was glad to hear that you had got that money and that you wer / all well but thare is one thing that I want explained one of them was mailed at plainfield and the other at Adams the talk is that we shall be paid again next week and if we do I shall send you some more and I want you to use what you want if thare is aneough of it I think that you will bee prudent a neough to tend to 20 dollars aney way I will trust you with it and I want you to dress so that you will not be ashamed to go to plainfield or any whare else and eat and grow fat I was weighed to night and I weighed 1.63 1/2 pounds now dont you think that I am some fat can you match me now my health / is good and I hope that it will be spaird and I hope that god will bless me and my little familey and keep us safe it is my dailey prayer and my little testament I gain instructions from it and I hope that you will not forgett to ask god to spair me if it is his will to meet you once more in this world and prey that I may may be kept in the way that leads to everlasting life kiss the Children for me and say to them that father thinks of them and I want them to be good and mind I want you to give each of them 1 dollar apiece besides what I owed them and let it be kept if you have a neough perhaps you had better wait till I get paid again now I must close good night
