Alexandria the 15 some 4 milds
towards bull run in Camp this morning we came home last night about 7 oclock we had ben out on picket for 24 hours thear was three of our Companeys went out thear was a prospect of a fight we went some 11 milds on farther but we all came home safe and sound I think some men out of Co I killed a very nice one year old hiefier and thear was some words a bout that but no fighting I learnt that Henrys Regiment is on arlington hights Close to whear we wer when we wer wer in Camp at that place I shall try and go and se him to Day if I can / we are all well and tough and try to like our Calling and I think that the most of us shall stick to our post for one I shall by the help of our heavenly father ho I am not afraid to trust I must leave now for breakfast is readey after breakfast now I will try and write a few lines more well we had beans and beef for breakfast and Coffey and hard crackers for bread and I have made out a good meal and feal first rate I should like to se you all verry much but I cannot at present give my love to all the friends that I have left at home

the 16 in the morning well I went over and se henry and lots of boys that I knew henry is well and likes well tell Darius Bird that I se Mrow Bird he is well and is fat as ever I se him he says he likes first rate thare was about 30 of us went by the gard and went over to se the 37 when wee got back they had struck their tents and had gon but wee knew whear they had gon so wee slung knapsacks and started after them wee stoped last night right back of Fort lyons whitch was about 2 milds south east from whear wee wer in camp wee shall start again soon / and whear wee shall go I dont know but some whear I suppose they say that our Cornel is Brigadier genaral now but I dont know how that is they tuck the stripes of from one Corporal yesterday and thear is one more that they say is to loose his he is the left general gide of the line of Colors when you write Direct as you have I got a letter from H N Winslow last night tell him that I will write to him as soon as wee get whear wee stop aney length of time and I got a paper I think from father Crittenden last night and was glad to get it tell Mr Dawes that I should like to have him write to me and write what Reg Henrey Reed is in and the bo
