Chattanooga Tenn
November 18th 1864,
Dear Kate
I received your letter of Nov 4th a few days ago but since the Escort got back from Atlanta I have been bussy at one thing or other ever since I have been
I rode out to the Regiment a few days ago. Capt Sellers sent in for me to come out and spend the day with him as he has some writting for me to do. so I had very little time to see the boy’s. Capt Sellers has been with the Reg for some time He started from Atlanta about the first of the month with the new recruits and dismounted / men. they came up in the cars and went to the Reg. We are in a very unsettled state, as we do not know what they are going to do with us. we have been expecting to go back to the Reg. every day but I do not see that we are any near than we was when we came here but I hope that before long it will be settled some way as I am tired of this way of living part of the company one place and the other at another And as I have writting to do and I cannot do it till we get all together
Lt Field of our company has sent in his resignation and has been accepted so he will leave before long. so their will be a chance for some one for promotion. I do not know who that / happy person will be, but I thing that Srgt Jenkins will get it.
The Post Master has got here with mail and I hope that he has brought me a letter so I will go and see and will be back in a few minutes.
No letters for G. B. Smith.
What am I to believe, about Alf says he will not get married till I get home. is he paying his devotions to a fair lady or not if so I would like to know who she is but I am of the opinion that he can say that he will wait, as I do not think that he will marry very soon, without he has changed very much since I have left
How I would like to have been home at election—no person thought that John was for Mac, but from what you wrote I suppose that he went for Lincoln. /
I was very busy on Election day as I took an active part. I was clerk for the Election that was held at the Escort. I was kept very busy writting as we had sixteen Countys represented. I only had two votes for Delaware Co one S. Ladd Jr. any my own. I saw Ned Engle & Hannum the other day they were both well. Ned Smith is still at Nashville or on his way down here. I have very little news to write about so I will stop.
Remember me to John and all my friends
Give my love to all.
Good bye
from your affectionate brother
