Chattanooga Tenn
Oct. 10th 1864
Dear Kate
I am back at Chattanooga on business, left Atlanta on the 27th of last month to be absent six days, but since I left three bridges between here and Atlanta have been washed away so I cannot get home and I do not know when the cars will run again but I hope to get of in a few days as I am tired staying here. I received your letter of Sept 26th and one from Alf (the first one for a great while) on the 7th of this month. I got them out of our mail, being acquainted with the Post Master, but from your letter their must be more in the mail for me. this is the first mail that I have got for some time. I suppose you knew that the rail road was not in running order for some time. The Rebels thought that they would like to have it for a short time, but they have left in disgust.
I changed my mind about the letter that I received from Mrs DeWilt so I answered it a few days after I received it, so I think that between my letter and yours, she ought to got one of them. /
I think that Jim Knowles is going to have a big wedding or has had it by this time if nothing if nothing has happen.
I think that five brides-maids, an groom-men are a great many.
I saw by a paper the other day John C. Beatty for congress. I do not think that he will get it. I suppose it must be ment for cousin John as I do not know of any other John C. B. I have very little news to write about so I will stop.
Remember me to all my friends
Give my love to all. I am very well
Good bye
from your affectionate brother
