Chattanooga Tenn
Oct. 19th 1864

Dear Kate
I received your letter dated Oct 11 & 13 yesterday so I thought I would answer it to day, but when I went to look for my paper I found that it was all use up by some person, so I thought I would not go out any buy any as this would answer. I have plenty at home—Atlanta I call home—so you see that I am still in Chattanooga / and expect to stay here about one week longer and by that time I hope that the cars will be running again.

I suppose that you have seen in the Papers that the rebels have been in the rear of Atlanta and have captured several places on the rail road, so I have not heard from the front since I left their

a few days before I left the company I put in for a furlough but I do not expect to get it now. when I left Capt Sellers came to me and asked me if I wanted to go to Chattanooga I told him that I did not care if I went or not, so he said that if I got my furlough it would be ready when I got back, but if it was approved it will be to late when I get back, but as my time is passing away very fast it will not make much diference, but I would like to get home if I could.

I am sorry to heare that you have had boils again but I hope that you are well by this / time as they are very painfull.

I am glad to see that Penna has gon Republican and when the soldiers vote is added it will make the majority larger as near of the votes in this Army is for the Republican ticket.

I voted for the first time, and hope to have a vote next month and that will be for Lincoln, and my cry is still for war.

I cannot see why the [?] family is so much opposed to the marrage for my part I think that it is a good match, and Jim is a good study young fellow, but I suppose that they have reason for it.

I suppose that John B Smith is still at home as I have not heard that he has gon of to the wars yet.

The Regiment is expected here in a short time I hope that they will get here before I leave as I would like to see them several of the boys that is sick came here a few days ago and when they left all the Charles boys was well.

I will write to Annie in a few days as I have no news to write at all I will stall and write again in a few days /

Remember me to all my friends give my love to all—

I am very well
