John P. Brindle to George W. Jacobs, 28 March 1863
Camp Near Falmouth Va
Saturday Evening March the 28th/63

            Friend George
I thought it would not amiss this evening to drop a line. I must stop for supper.

After Supper. I thought I would go to preaching the christian Mission have a very interesting meetings they were established while I was at home I think they are doing a great deal of good. They have a short Sermon wen after which the meeting is handed over to the Soldiers who take quite an interest in telling their experience and urgeing others to come out and confess christ.

Sunday Morning I am not quite so well this morning having sharp shooting pains through my limbs and joints. I hope however to be better in a few days. Hoping when these lines reach you to find you all enjoying good health I have nothing of much importance to write there appears to be an indication of a move soon but in what direction I cannot tell. The 9th core has gon to cincinnatti that is the core Sphar is with I suppose he has gon with them. I saw Mary and Jane, Emma & Will in York the night I came through. John Wolf & Montgomery Zeigler made a short stay with us. John Zeigler being gon home of course Gum would not feel like staying long hear. I did not make the connection / with the Boat on Sunday Morning of course I had to lay in Washington untill Monday morning which threw me a day behind time. I reached camp about one OClock reported myself immediately at head quarters. All was right. Joe Stair has his furlough out for approval I do not know what keeps it as it has had time enough to get through. When it does come it will be but for 6 days rather a short time to spend at home but still better than none. The boys are all pretty well Bob is lively has a slight cold but not unwell with it. Will Wolf John Wilson & in fact the majority of them are in good spirits

O. Brownawell is not so well. Sam Runkle came to the Regiment on Thursday last is loocking very well.

I do not know that I can interest you in any thing I have to write as all appears quiet save the anxiety to know when and in what direction the Army may move. quite a number of Divisions have been under marching order before I came back. We have none yet. some think we will remain hear others say our core will go to Cumberland Md Others say this and others that So you see we can tell verry little about it. I will close for this time Remaining Your Friend and well wisher.

May God Bless you all is my Prayer
