as Sammey is writing to Hermey I thought I would fulfill my promis and and write you a few lines. I am usualy well at present and hope this to find you the same. we arrived here to the Regt. On the 14th finding the Boys all usualy well and enjoing them-selvs as well as could be expected. we lay over in Washington 3 days if I recolect right. I went down to the Patent Office and saw your Father and told him I had bin to your house and took tea in those nice Presents. I intended to
get a sight at
that nice
watch /
but
I forgot to ask
him about it. I will now
ask how Mrs. Manley enjoyed her visit and ride on the Cars. Spose she returned the next day. what for a time did you and Hermey have that day. Sammy sais he gueses you felt pretty well about getting rid of us and I thought so my Self. I should have bid Annie Adieu that morning but expected sertain to go back down to your house. but you see how it was and we couldent stay any longer verry well. but we enjoyed our Selvs firstrate Sammy comes down to my tent most every day and asks if I have heard from
Little Valley. he sits here

I will will say
now that Samey got a
Letter last eve from Fayette Marsh requesting him to send 20cts to pay for a couple of lamp chimneys which Hermey and Annie run in debt for at his Store and said if Samey dident want Hermey to run him in debt any more, he would have to write an order stateing to him not to let her have any thing more to be charged in his name. and I thought that it was quite a joke on Samey and he sais to turn it off he is agoing to send the order and 30cts to Hermey to pay it with. well I will have to bring
this poorly writen letter
to a close Laura if
you think /
this Poorly
writen note worthy
of an answer I hope you
will be so kind and much
Obliging us to answer it. Please give My best wishes to Annie and your Mother. also Hermey and all Inquiring. I will close by sending you my best wishes and Respects
