Dear Brother & Sister now for a long story as I have got nuthing else to do to day. well then now here she goes. I started one week a go yesterday for the army of the Potomack & I found it came hard to part with so many friends & much Relations But when our cause is just in God we must put our trust & fight & Bleed & Dye for him Or loose the Victory he has given To us of Man & Women kind & all of human Being.
I felt Rather lonesome that day & night & for that matter the next day. I stayed to Cattaraugus that night & the next morning at 8 oclock the Train was Ready & so was I. We went to Salamanca stayed one houre & then took the other road & went to Jamestown stayed over night I went up to camp & stayed with N. Butler then in the morning the boys went down town with us & we got our pass made out for J. Sanders J. Bartlett C. Burmen E. Brown & one more whos name I have forgot / this pass took us to Abany & there & C. Crane & Tomas Wickham came Home we got on the cars at Jamestown came to Salamanca changed cars came back to Cattaraugus & I thought of making U a call but as I was on buisness U lived quite a piece from the station I could not make it convieniant so from there on we went to Dunkerk changed there cars at 10 Oclock P.M. went to Buffalo changed cars about 1 oclock A.m. went to the City of Roame stayed a short time started from there about 6 oclock in the morning got to Albany before dinner went to the Barocks stayed that day & night wrote U a few lines in the time & the next day about 5 oclock we started from there marched down to the dock took the Boat for N. Y. City. the old Steamboat plowed her through untill about 9 oclock the next morning, then she puled up to the dock in N. Y. City then we got off marched up through the city or one corner then took the fery boat across the River layed there about an houre then took / Cars for Pheladelpha we Run through all most hundreds of Citys & Vilages and after while came to Pheladelpha took the ferry boat crossed the Delaware river I think in to the city & took dinner left Charles Terman sick in the Hospital marched up to the Depot, took the cars for Baltimore. they Run till about midnight came to a place & stoped I thought they was fussing Round quite a spell so went out to the car door opend it & I was fairly scart I was out in the Susquhana River as much as 1/2 a mile So I steped out on the Platform & examined the institution & found the train doubled up in to 3 parts side & side & there we were on a boat going a cross the River. the Sentinal that was on the boat said the boat was onley 220 feet long. It was quite a sight to me to see that performance, & I should think it would be to any body. & when the boat floated across the cars run right on the track backed up & hitched hold of the train & on we went to Baltimore feeling quite tired sick & such we got in to Baltimore about 4 oclock marched up to Soldiers rest stayed a few minuets & washed, went down to the depot layed round till morning & till night for that matter & then if I did not sleep that night U dont tell any body & we was examined yesterday & they sent me up here & J. B. is hired out one month for nurse down in the street midle of the city & they have sent me up here & we had a genral Revieu & it is verry lucky that I started as I did because I onley just fatched round in time to save being a Deserter & loosing my pay when the musterd us this morning they found 3 missing so they will be Deserters & lose all pay & Bounty therefore I feel quite thankful that I have fatched round. Uncle J. Sanders has plowed a furow clear through by this time I spose he put straight a head. they all thought he would not go any farther than than washington but he has outwinded us all Father he wanted U & Mother to go down right a way & tell his wife how he got along U will find the rest out the 5 page E.
