Camped near Wilis ford
Sept 20th 1862
Dear Brother James.
I now sit down to ask you to pardon me for not riting before it has now been some time since I have rote to any of you, and the longer I put it of the longer I was to get ready to rite, and am very mutch surprised to look at the date of your letter (Oct 5th) and to think that I have not done my duty in answering it before, but it came all right and safe, and was very happy to receive it. we are now haveing a little better times than for what we have been a haveing. / we received two letters from father lately, and he said that they was all well, and that is not all neather, he said you all had an invitation to go come home on Nov 6th, to the weding of one of our number, but I dont think that I will attend, to but I hope that you all will have a nice time. and I heard that T. B. Aumack was dead witch I was very sorry to hear, but I was glad that he got home. we are now a doing picket duty along the potomack. we are now near the ford, were the rebles crossed a short time a go, but I have heard that they have been captured. but / I dont know how it is weather it is true or not. but we cant get mutch news any way, so I am at a loss to know what to tell you. but the most that I can tell you is that we are enjoying very good health, and hope that this will find you the all the same. I must close and I will try to rite a little oftener here after, but you must rite no more at presant, Good night
