Lexington May 30th 1862
 
            Deare Brother and Sister as it is wet to day I thought I would wright you a few lines I am well at present and hope when this reaches you you may be enjoying the same blessing when Frank and Flory was down here a few weeaks ago they came to church Flora came and set with me a while I asked her where mother was if she had come down. why no said she Mothers got a baby Frank looked as though he had been well fead if he keeps on growing I think he will be a man before his brother I want Flory to wright me a letter and let me know how the baby is getting along and whether it is red headed or not I would like to know about how pretty it is whether it would be worth while for me to gow up there to see it tell Frank if I do not go up soon for him to rig up the horse and Buggy and fetch the baby down so that I can see it There has nothing strange happened about here of late of importance I believe excepting George Knox was brought home dead from the army that is the lame one he was in the same company that Campbell is in it was reported a few days ago that the govener had ordered two hundred men to be raised in this County for thirty days to gow to Columbus to guard prisoners so that the drill soldiers / could go to the Washington and protect the capital 50 of the lexington boys went down from but came back the next day I believe it was a false telegraph and the govener would not except them unless they would go for three months Some of the boys is are gowing for thre months I believe one of our neighbor boys came home late from Virginia wounded in the arme by a musket ball his name is Wm Oberlin I put out 7 acre of oats and about 9 acres of corne I have been plowing fallows washing sheepe and doing various other things to tedious to mention of late. Corne came up pretty nice this spring but there seames to be a great manny cut worms I am afraid they will injure it wright soon and let me know how you are getting along and what you are driving at no more at present but remains your friend & brother
