Silas Chase to Henry A. Caldwell to Henrietta Caldwell, 11 February 1863
Murfreesboro Tenn Feb the 11th 1863

Deare Brother and Sister your letter dated December 27th/62 I did not receive untill Jan 6th it had got to the Regt before I did. I was glad to heare from you and that you were all well. I am well at present and have been pretty hearty since I came in to the service. I am now with the regt we came here the 6th of this month the boys seamed to be glad to see us because the regt had got pretty small. there has been a greate many died and discharged and some killed in the late battle which had left the regt pretty small. I could not give you a correct list of the killed and wounded in the Regt so I will not attempt it /

I suppose you have seen the particulars in your papers before this time. there was one man killed instantly in our Com and one died since of a wound there are some two or three others who were wounded of but I believe are not considered dangerous. and there are two others belonging to the Com which have not been heard from since the battle it is supposed they wer wounded and taken prissoner by the Rebels you can tell Jims woman that her brother is well and that I seen him since I began to wright my letter, he has been assigned to com I of this regt. henry spoke of that money and how he had disposed of it I am satisfied with the way in whic he has disposed of it. I wish you to do with with it as you think best. /

Wen When I left home I had to go sooner than I expected and I had not much time to see to it. I did not know whether Henry would have a chanc to let it out in good hands or not So I told Campbell he had better put it in the bank, but as you have got it in good hands I suppose it is better the way it is. I suppose we will be paid off before long or at least that is the talk and iff we are I suppose Campbell will pay me that other hundred. he told me while at home that he could not pay me till he got payed off again I you spoke of wrighting me a letter while at Columbus I did get it. This one dated Dec 27th is all I have received since I left home. this is the third one I have written to you the last / letter I wrote you I thought we would be at Bowling Green till you would have time to answer it or I would have put other directions in it. I believe I have no mor to tell you at present so no more but remains your friend
