July 28th 1863
Deare brother and Sister it is some time since I last wrote to you and as I have a little time now I thought I would wright you a few lines to let you know where I am and how I am getting along I am well and have been since I wrote to you last. we left Murfress some time ago and were on a march of about two weeaks. it Rained I belive evry day we were on the march. we did not march verry far in a day because we could not get our train along verry fast through the mud / we started for Vixburgh or rather in the first place for Tullahoma but did our division did not get any fighting to do. Col McCook an General McCook and Thomas on our wr right wing being alittle in advance of us had some sharp fighting to do but I need not tell you any thing more about it for I suppose you have read it all in the papers. the left wing does not get theire that is Gen Woods Division on acount of Thomas and McCook being ahed of us and chaseing them out. before we got to a place called Pelham and was ordered back to Hillsboro about 8 miles from / the former place and we have been here about three weeaks I stood the march pretty well there is some talke of us marching soon againe but it may be all talk I do not know any thing certain about it. that is something we do not often get to know till we start and are on the march a while. we were paid off a few days ago and I have about $30.00 to send home so I thought I woould send it with one of the drafted men Mr Wm Hartussee from neare Ontario. as theire time is up I suppose they will be starting home in a few days. I thot he could leave it in the office / at Ontario or at Galion just as he had the oportunity if you get the money you can do as you coose with it iff you are neading it use it. I believe thats all I have to wright at present so I will close Wright soon as you get this no more but remains your friend and brother
