                                                                                                                        Dear Sir
I take this opportunity of letting you know how I am getting along. I am well and hearty at present and hope you are enjoying the same blessing. I have not heard from you for some time but hope you are imjoying your Selvs all right. We have been doing up some pretty hard marching since I last wrote to you but I have stood it pretty well better than expected we marched from Hillsboro and after croswsing the Cumberland Mountain camped a while in the / Sequachell[?] Valley and from there to Chattanooga. we expected to have some fighting to do before we got into Chattanooga but did not have a geat-eal. we had some skirmishing and cannonading but did not get into a regular fight. the Rebs left the place and we are after them pretty close. we have chased them to Chickamauga Creek and it seames as though they were going to make a stand here. I was in a pretty sharp skirmish the other day with them I heard the Balls whisting around me and could see them lighting on the ground before me. we chased them and none / of us were hurt. yesturday our regt went out on a Reconoisance yesturday they see a few rebs and had a light skirmish we had one man wounded in the arme. it is expected we will have a battle here but I do not know how it will be yet. When the drafted men left us at Hillsboro I gave Wm Hartussee $30.00 (thirty dollars) to give to you but I do not know whether he has done it or not as I have not heard any thing from it since. he livs a little south of Ontario. he promised to maile it at Ontario and send it to you or iff he had the chance give it to you. / it may be you have written but I have not received your answer wright soon and let me know how times are up there. no more at present but remains your friend and brother
