Henrietta Caldwell to Silas Chase, 7 July 1862
July the 7th
 
Dear Brother
                                    I sit down this morning to write a few lines to you to let you know how we are getting along we are all well at present and we hope that you ar enjoying the same blessing Henry is a teeming for the brick maker Snider this summer he starts away evry morning as soon as he gets up and he gets back about dark every evening he thinks he will quit after this week for he has some harvesting to do we have between 5 and 6 acres of the nicest kind of wheat up at Mrs Edsons to cut as soon as harvesting is over he is going to start on a traveling expedition out through Williams County and some of the other adjoining Co /
 
He is going to try to get a piece of of land if it is not more than 20 acres Thomas Young lives out in Williams County he thinks it is the greatest place entirely they have lots of peaches and all kinds of fruit I will now tell you about the children they are all laying on the flore sound asleep Frank is lying in the dore and Flora and the baby is lying by the window Floras head is as curlly as ever and Frank is as fat as ever and Flora says the baby is as pretty as ever they had a great deal to say about being down to Lexington and seeing Uncle Silas they often ask why you dont never come up Flora says she thinks the baby is worth coming to see so I think you had better come / up and see it Sarah Jane has a boy 3 weeks and 3 days younger than our baby. they call him Charls Elmore Susa is not at home now she is at her Uncles over by Crestline she is going to stay there all summer the rest of the folks is all well as far as I know I suppose you like the rest of us enjoyed yourself on the forth I enjoyed myself staying at home Henry was police in town he helped take up a felow for fighting the fellow commenced the fight but he got the worst of the bargin himself. he got his head cut in too places and he drawed a pistol on the policeman and had to give three Hundred dollars bail I suppose you heard that Elias White was killed I forget the name of the pace where he was when he got killed as for the rest of the war news I suppose you hear as much as we do I believe this is all I have to say at present we want you to write as often as you can            Henrietta Coldwell /

Henry neglected writing so long so I thought I would have to write write soon and come up as soon as you can no more at present but remains your
