Dear Sister: I sit down to answer your kind and welcome letter of the 9^th it gave me a great deal of pleasure to hear that you were all well. I could hardly help laughing at you for been caught with the house dirty it brought to my mind the words of our redeemer "be ye also ready for in such an hour as ye think / not the Son of man cometh" I am well at present and hope hope this may find you all the same. I should answered this your letter sooner but some of our mess put on to big a fire one night last week and burnt down our chimney and we had to build it up again. I will have to close and hope to hear from you soon your true

I was to late last night to get this posted. The paymaster is here to day and I think we will be paid if we are I will send some money home with Robert Guyton I think he will get home in a few days, but he does not want any body to know it. do not tell any person that I wrote to you he was going home he is a very good friend of mine or / he would not told me. I think I would got home this time if it had not been for James. I heard he told the captain that I never done any thing at home but quarel with matilda and she did not want me to go home. I wish he was out of my mess for he tries to make me spend all the money he can and he is angry when I do not. but I think it is beter for me to send it home to my wife and child                                                             W^m Dunlap
