Charles W. Hill to Martha E. Hill, undated
Sunday Morning
I shall send by this mail a box of rosebuds. I do not know how they will reach you but they are very beautiful now. I have not much faith that they will reach you in good condition but hope for the best. I thought the experiment worth trying. Please accept them as a May-day present I hope they will reach you at that time. Mr Wood and I are sending a box to Marlboro for a May party there. Most of yours came from the garden attached to our office. The little one is for Eddie. I have not arranged them as they should be but only to get them into the box.
This is a beautiful morning. You dont know how pleasant it is here when it is pleasant. I wish you could be with me to enjoy this beautiful day /
I have not formed out yet whether there is to be a funeral service for Mr Means here or not. The matter is in the hands of Chauplin Clark of the Mass 23rd and he is just nobody He used to be acquainted with the family at home is why he has the direction of that matter here. I presume however there will be a service. today I sympathize with the family very much.
When I hear from you and know that you are as well as usual, I always feel thankful that I enlisted when I did. I would not part with my experience while here for a great deal I have learned some lessons I never could have learned at home. I have enjoyed my life here too very much better than I dared to hope I could. I only long to get home again that I may be with you and my friends again I am feeling perfectly well this morning I expected to have a sickness while here when I came and may yet, but so far I have enjoyed excelent health.
Very much love
Charles—
