Dear Brother
I received a letter from you a few days ago dated 16th inst in which you stated that you had written two letters dated the 3rd & 8th inst to me but had received no answer to either of them. those two letters must have been miscarried for I did not receive either of them. We have been encamped at this place for nearly a week and are taking things quite easy though we have a good deal of picket duty to do as we are the advance Brigade.
I seen Capt. C. H. Russell this morning his company are quartered about half a mile from us. he looks well & hearty and asked us a good many questions about the folks / around Catasauqua. We gave a "Lehigh Register" of the 23rd to him so that he could read the news for himself. Alexander Doneghue & L. B. Overbeck of our Co returned from home last week Aleck had some great stories to tell but I knew by his looks that he had been on a drunken spree so I did not listen to him. I suppose that by this time you have seen Daniel Desmal & John Leo
Leo was in the Hospital at Fredirick a long time before we knew anything about his being there.
Our boys are having a great time on picket some of them were out the night before last and were stationed near a Farm house. The next morning when the nigger who had charge of the farm came out to feed the chickens there was no / chickens to be found. the darkey did not know what to make out of it. he said, "de chickens was all dare last night but dare's none here dis morning." I think if he was to come around Camp this morning he might find some of them in the pots cooking for dinner.
News is very scarce around here so I must close for this time

Give my love to Mother Sisters & Brothers to all inquiring Friends and receive the same yourself from your aff Brother
