Dear Bro Hen
Your very welcome letter of the 12th reached me a day or two ago but as I happened to be on picket of course I could not answer as soon as I wished. the papers you send comes every few days and I find more news in them even if they are a week old than I can find in the Daily papers we get here Your photograph was received and I think favors you a great deal. you havent changed muched during the past two years. Tell Johnny I want his photograph for a New Year's present. You write of having a snow storm up home. Well, we / have'nt seen any snow here yet and citizens tell me that they rarely have snow in this part of the Country. the weather has been very pleasant so far here. We seldom use Overcoats except at night when on picket duty.

Most of our men are still engaged on the Fayettevile Road. One man belonging to Co. H. was killed by Guerillas while scouting with a party of ten or twelve they were met by a squad of Guerillas and exchanged a few shots with them which resulted with one of our men killed. two of the Guerillas were captured and I have good reason to believe they were made to dance on nothing. Matchett came to Camp last night but went out again this morning /

I have a notion to go out tomorrow to forage for a Goose or a young hog for our Christmas dinner. our Regiment has brought in about 60 Geese already besides any quantity of Fresh Pork. the boys are allowed to kill any thing they want from the farmers that live near the railroad on account of there being Guerillas. We had two Geese for our Thanksgiving Dinner and if we dont have some for Christmas & New Year's it wont be our fault

                                                            enough for this time

Give my love to Mother Sisters & Bro's. and some to yourself

                                                            from your aff Bro
