Louisville Ky Mar 25th 1864
 
            Dear Bro Dave
                                                I suppose you have already heard of our leaving Harrisburg Now I take this oppertunity of writing to let you know that we have got this far on our journey. We were just in time on Monday last. we got to Harrisburg at 2 Oclock and met the Captain as he was starting for Camp Curtin. so we went along and found we were just in time to fall in with the Regiment and start off. We reached Pittsburg next day at noon took dinner and again started on our journey reaching Indianapolis. Ind. yesterday morning and Louisville. Ky. last evening we expect to leave here some time this afternoon. there is some talk of arming the new Recruits here and if that is so we may stop for a day or two /
 
I have nt much of a chance to write at present but will give you all the nuse in a few days
 
McQuiden has been promoted to 2nd Lieut of our Company. he sends his respects to you all Sam especially
 
Give my love to Mother Sisters & Bro's to all inquiring Friends and some to yourself from
