Sylvester Strong to George Strong and Emily Strong, 22 August 1862
Camp Randall Madison
Aug 22d 1862

Dear Parents.
I now set down to lett you know that we all well and in good spirits. Rice and Scott are a going to start for Milwaukee this evening on the nine Oclock train. I think of coming in about the middle or latter part of next week. I was assistant cook yesterday and last night I was taken with the Dyerah but I am all right again this morning. It rained all yesterday afternoon and last night this morning it looks like more rain. the air is damp cold and muggy. I heard that we were a going away next week but I dont belive it /

The Col said that we should all have a furlough before that wanted one before we left this camp. There was about Twenty left on on tuesday last on six days furlough they will be back on Monday next. then I think that us Milwaukee can get a furlough all at the same time. If you have not sent my flannell shirts out by Ben I wish you would do so immediately Rice has got sick of Orderly and has resigned his commission I dont think that I will get my office. The way the thing has turned out James Ferguson cant give me the office that he promised me This all I have to write this time. Please excuse all errors and answer soon /
