Post Hospital Rolla Oct 24th 1862
Dear Parents
I received yours written by Bert on the 20 last night and glad to hear home again. There was six of our boys left here for the regiment yesterday with a the govt train for Springfield They expect to be week a going through It is a nasty rough windy day it is blowing up a storm. You wanted to know what kind of grub we get here they draw rations just like we do in camp. I dont think that they are cooked much better. the sickest ones that are a bed get chicken and soup toast and crackers tea and coffee. You can get of the women that come around / Milk 5cts Pint You can get what they call here corn bread, what we call Jonnycake, you can get a half a square of this Bread for 10ct and soft Molasses cake and evry thing else according had you got mine of 21st when you wrote. how long does it take you letters to get letters from me. If you have not sent that box I spoke of in my letter of the 21st and think you cant send it filled send it empty. but the agent says it is all right if that spittell is of If you can find any thing that would be strengthing on the but I would like a bowl of jelley so I could take it with me I would like a dollar or two in small sized green backs if you got it to / spare if you want it again I will send it back to you when I get to the Regt I have not got any more money here with me. If you have sent the things all right I dont think you need not send any more I guess. I think that I shall in a bout a week. I think that I shall make a start any way. I am a bout all right now. So get evry thing in the last box answer quick and let me know whether it is a coming or not. This is all I have to say this time Yours Truly
