Dear Parents
As the mail was going to leave the Boat to night I thought that I would drop you a few lines and let you know that I am well, as well as all the rest of the Mil boys. Arch and Jim are all right so far also Rice and Scott

We left Rolla the 2d of June about night got into St Louis the morning of the third. We left St Louis the afternoon of / third. We dont make very fast headway on account of the water being low and we being very heavy loaded. we have had to stop twice and get off and march about five mile over shallow water. The Boat is loaded with the 20 Wis. one Peoria Battery Besides a large ammount commissary stores and ammunition. John Savage the adjutant of the twenty Eighth is also on board. The way we are moving now is a little easyer than marching all day in the hot sun. We generaly run all day and ty up nights. Where we tied up last night we found a regular sesesh / We just nabbed on to him and brought him along with us.

If you see anything of Uncle Amos folks you can tell them that scott is on guard or he would write a few lines
