Camp Lake Spring Mo
June 2d 1863

Dear Parents
I thought that I would write you to night as we have got marching orders to be ready to march at five Oclock in the morning. I dont know where we are a going down the river.

I am in good spirits and am feeling quite well at present and I hope that I will continue feeling well. I guess that we are a going / down to Vicksburg. I dont want to go that way. but if it will help put down this cursed rebellion I am willing to go any where. The 1st Division are at salem now they are going along with us where ever we go. there is the ninth Wis Infantry 3 Wis Cavalry 19 Iowa Infantry and one Battery We have been having quite rainy weather this last three or four days. I hope that it will stop for a while till we get some where. Ferguson Horten and Rockwell arrived in camp last / Saturday night all safe and sound looking well and harty. they look as if going home agreed with them. I dont think of much more to write this time. I suppose that you have seen Jo before this. Tell Jo that we feel lost without him. he must try and get around on time where ever we go. The Milwaukee Boys are all in good spirits and feeling well. I must close now for we have Reveillie at half past three and march at five / in the morning.

I remain You
affectionate Son
            S. Strong

I will write a gain as soon as we get some where
