I received your leter yesterday & was glad to hear from you it found me enjoyen good health
 
Graham Warren is at anaplis a perbled prisener I guess lucy clark dident care much a bout him She rote him a leter for to have him send her likeness back but he dident do it /
 
            We expect that vixburg is ours by this time the last that we hurd from thare they had it surrounded & had capturd the water balers both sides of the town & have drove them clear to thare last line of fortcations & they offerd to serrender if they would let them ly down thare arms & march out but grant says he will have the hull thing or loose what he has got he has had a thousand men killed some days rite out folkes at home dont know much about war it hant bin but a few days since I see men with thare heads off & arms & limbs a flying in the air /
