Respected uncle and aunt I this evening take my pen in hand to write you a few lines as charley is writing you a letter I will write you a few lines to let you know that I have not forgoten you I have nothing that will interrest you more than Charley has told you and it is not worth while for me to try to interest you When I have nothing that will fil the bill We was out on a scout yesterday and last knight and to day we was conscripting horses in this town since yesterday We had to place pickets all around the place to kepe them from runing them off We air not dun yet I think to knight will close the job We have got a grate mey fine horses since yesterday morning I think we will get a grate meny more I hope that we will get to ride sum of them before long I will close by requesting you to write to me soon & gave my Respects to all the famely and except a dew potion for youre selfes I add no more at present I remain youre friend John L Smith
