My Dear Wife i take this opertunity to let you know that i am well and hope theas few lines may find you all in Joing the sam helth Whe have bin on the march ever sence whe left Weberster and a fiting the grillies Whe have had severl kild and severl wonded and a bout 20 taken prisners Whe lay at a little town in West vergina cold Peters burg it is about 60 miles from Winchester Whe drove imboden out of Winchester and still following him up
the report was this morning that he was capturd and that we was a going back to Beverley again but i cant tell for sertain i sent you 20 dollars home by harrison i saw him when on the road to Winchester i have recivd one letter sence i rote to you last i cant tell you ware to Direct your letters to only as i stated in the last letter untill whe get to som place to incamp for a wile this is all at presant give my love to all my inquiring frends and to our famleys from your afectnate
