Well Nila I now take my pen in hand to let you know that I am still alive and well and hope you are the same we have a very nice place hear and the health of the regiment has not ben as good as at the present since we came out and I hope that it will continue the same while we stay in servis and that you know is not onley about twenty six months more to stay and then you may loock for me if my life is spaird /
 
I shall now give you a list of conversation that we had in our tent this was May 18 as we wer setting in our tent thear was one man came intwo the tent and some of them began to swear it seams to me as though they take pains to cum in thear to swear so as to try and get me to join with them in cursing and when I hear it in my tent I try to reason with the men and some times I think that they may proffit by it for we hear not swearing for some time and then it cums this one that I had ben talking with asked me if I was a profeser of relligion / and I thank god that I was able to say yes and I told him that I hoped that he would stop his swearing when in my presence if not alltogather he said that he thought thear must be some thing in it for he said he had never heard me swear and he could not say that of aney one else but I can for thear is some good faithfull Christians in this reg now thank god and ask him to bless you and your Children and husband yes remember him when to the throne of grace you come and ask him to bless the poor soldier
