My Dear Nila I now take my pen in hand to write you a few lines allthough I get no letters from aney one still I shall write to my wife as long as I can for perhaps the time may come when I cannot write or may have no family to write tow do not think that I am discouraged or down hearted for I am not but I do like to hear from home and My little wife babie I or rather E got a letter from Wm day before yesterday he was well and / now Venila I want to know just how it is you say that your health is not as good as when I was at home now I want to know all a bout it and what is the matter with you if you have to worck so hard that you are kiling your self I command you in the name of all that I hold dear on earth to stop this doings and as long as thear is aney thing left take it for I think that I shall get home and then I can tke care of you as far as earthley hands can and if you are sick let me know it and I will sea what I can do /
 
Saturday Mr O. R. Lad came up to our camp he has never ben with his Regiment he is at the Covalesant Camp in or near Arlington hights his health is good yesterday the 11 mass battery 9 months men started for home they belong to Boston it made me think of home now I tell you but the papers say that vixburg is ours if that is so them we shall soon go home and I hope it may prove tru EM is well I was out on picket last night with 8 men and one Corporal / besides my self thear was 3 posts they said that stewarts Cavaley was sean near hear but we are readey for them and they know it last night thear was 12 men and 3 corporals out on picket they thought that we should get one of their raids but did not all quiet on Upton Hill this morning My health is tip top and I subcribe my self as your devoted
